About Us

Who We Are

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Georgetown, Indiana, is a fellowship of  God's people serving Him by proclaiming the Good News of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ for all people.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:8

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church was founded in 1970 by the efforts of faithful Lutheran Christians from neighboring congregations of St. Johns Lutheran in Lanesville, Indiana and Grace Lutheran Church in New Albany, Indiana. The first worship service was held in 'Polly's Freeze' on January 4, 1970 across the highway from the present church location.

Property for the church structure was purchased on March 1, 1970 and a new sanctuary was dedicated on May 1, 1971. The congregation grew steadily annexing the sanctuary in 1979. Preschool classes were begun in 1999 and a new Family Life Center and offices with an expanded sanctuary was dedicated on August 5, 2001.
